A puppy that was left in a dangerously hot car has a new home with the firefighters who saved him.

When firemen saw this sweet dog stuck in a hot car, they knew they had to get him out. But they didn’t expect to fall in love so quickly.WCYB says that the dog was found in a car that was stopped near a Connecticut beach. The temperature inside the car got as high as 122 degrees. After he was cared for, the little guy was turned to animal control. The East Haven Fire Department chose to make him their station support dog at that point.

The fire service asked people in the area to help them choose a new name for the dog through Facebook. They sent out a poll with choices like Cinder, Ash, and Spartan. Riggs was the clear winner, though.

“He is an official ambassador for the department,” Mayor Joseph Carforna said in another Facebook post. Riggs is now an Eastie.
