Take 72-year-old movie star Jeff Bridges as an example.
In Hollywood, an actor is something new. His wife Susan, whom he married in 1977, has always been very important to him.
And Jeff Bridges says that after 45 years of marriage, his wedding keeps getting better.
Bridges have been one of Hollywood’s longest-running and best-known actors for a long time. In the 1970s, he got his big break. He was nominated for an Oscar for his parts in Clint Eastwood’s movies The Last Picture Show and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
He later became well-known for movies like King Kong and Tron, and his work in Starman and The Fisher King was praised. In 1998, he played “The Dude” in the cult film The Big Lebowski, which became a fan favourite and had its own philosophy. This was his most famous role (and countless orders of White Russians at bars.)
In 1975, while filming the western comedy Rancho Deluxe, the veteran actor met his wife, Susan Geston. Susan was a waitress at a ranch near Chico Hot Spring, where a scene with a hot bath was shot.
Jeff Bridges wrote in 2014 that he saw this girl while they were filming a scene in a hot tub at Chico Hot Springs. He just couldn’t stop looking at her. He later found out that she was beautiful and had two black eyes and a broken nose from a car accident. Something about how pretty and ugly she was hypnotized him.
Jeff would have to try hard to win Susan’s love, though. Jeff once asked the beautiful waitress to go out with him after work, but she said no.
A few days later, he asked again, but he got the same answer. On the other hand, Susan gave him hope by saying, “It’s a small town; maybe they’ll see each other later.”
After a long time, they finally met on a night off from work.
After a night of dancing, the waitress and Bridges hit it off, and it wasn’t long before she packed up her things and moved to California with him.
Geston wanted to get married, but Bridges was nervous about making such a big commitment.
Bridges told Geston in 1977 that she would leave him if they didn’t get married. Bridges knew he would always feel bad about letting his love go.
Jeff said that he thought, “Oh, God, I can’t let this woman go.” He imagined an old person saying, “Gosh, why didn’t he marry that girl from Montana?”
So he asked her to marry him, and they married a few days later.
After 45 years, Bridges and Geston are still very much in love. They’ve learned a lot about how to talk to each other and stick together when things get hard. The girls are all grown up, and they have one grandchild.

Their oldest daughter, Isabelle, was born in 1981. The other two girls were born in 1985 and 1983. Their names are Haley and Jessica.
Bridges said he still looks at his wife with the same love he did when he saw her serving tables for the first time.
Bridges also said that until a person gets married, they think that all other doors are closed, which is true. But when you get married, you open a door that leads to a hallway full of amazing doors: children, deeper connections, new experiences, and so on.
Of course, there are always going to be problems in a partnership. Bridges and his wife, on the other hand, know how to get through hard times together, which means they often talk openly and honestly.
Bridges said you can’t get the fullness of a long-term relationship if you switch partners whenever things get hard or you feel unfulfilled.
Also, they are very different as people, and they are proud of that instead of letting it divide them. He likes how smart she is, and he is sure that his daughters feel the same way. He feels he has been quite fortunate.
Bridges think that after 45 years, his marriage is only getting better. He said, “What they don’t tell you about marriage is that everything just gets better.”
