Since 2007, this has been Walmart’s slogan. It came from a part of a speech that founder Sam Walton gave in 1992. Walmart is known for having better prices than many of its competitors. It is also known for having the most diverse customers of any grocery store chain in the United States.

When you go to Walmart, you never know what you’ll find. You probably go to the store with a list or a specific item in mind that you need (for my mom, it’s always pumpkin spice coffee creamer, which they stock all year round for some reason). However, the stores have everything you could possibly need. Produce, frozen foods, snacks, alcohol, cleaning supplies, shoes, clothes, accessories, electronics, jewellery, home goods, a pharmacy, school supplies, paint, plants, and gardening tools, and sometimes even a hairdresser, a McDonald’s, and even guns can be found in these huge stores.
If you’re not from the United States, the idea of a store with all these things might be overwhelming. And let me just say, it can be. The layout isn’t always the same, so if you go to a new Walmart, you might be frustrated for 20 minutes or more because you can’t find what you need. But while you run around the store frantically looking for the hand soap that seems to have vanished, Walmart is great at giving you something else to do: watch other people.
I have a few ideas about why Walmart brings in such a wide range of people. First, Walmart is the biggest store in the U.S. and the second biggest in the world. Because of this, it always has a lot of people there. Walmart is a name everyone knows, and almost every American goes there at some point. It’s not the fanciest grocery store, so it’s easy to avoid, especially in places like Los Angeles, where there are many more local chains than it. But with an average of 37 million people going into Walmart stores every week, there are bound to be some interesting people.
Walmart has never been my favourite store because it took some locations a while to get more plant-based food items. But I still find myself there a lot. And because Walmart has a good name, it’s one of the few places I wouldn’t change out of my sweatpants or make sure my hair looked good before going. Walmart is mostly a “come as you are” store, which some might say is lovely. And it makes for a great place to meet interesting “People of Walmart.”
