The story of how they met and became together is very sweet. They have been together for almost forty years. That being said, they never got married, and they still have no plans to do so.

The first time Goldie and Kurt met was on the set of The Only and Only, Genuine Original Family Band in 1966. In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Hawn talked about the meeting.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Hawn told Cosmopolitan Magazine in 1986 why she and Kurt never got married. She thinks marriage is “ridiculous.”
She was going to have her third child at the time and said, “We’re very happy.”
“The child will be named Hawn Russell.” Kurt gave me a beautiful ring to show how much he loves me. The kids are happy.
