Everyone in the family takes turns sleeping on the couch with their old dog.

As our dogs get older, they start to slow down, but we do everything we can to ensure they are happy and comfortable in their later years.

But one family changed their sleep schedules to ensure their old dog felt loved.

Spike is an English springer spaniel who is 14 years old. Like most older dogs, he can’t move around as well as he used to. He just had his second stroke, which made it hard for him to use the stairs.

Spike couldn’t do one of his favourite things—sleeping in bed with his family, which he’s done since he was a puppy—because of this.

Catherine Morris, Spike’s owner, told The Dodo, “The first night we had him, we shut the stair gate and went to bed.” “He whimpered for a few minutes before he jumped over the fence in the dark, trotted into my parent’s room, and jumped right onto the bed! And from then on, he slept there.”

Spike could no longer get to his favourite spot because their bedroom was on the second floor. Even though he was getting weaker, he kept trying, and his family had to block the stairs to stop him.

But instead, they came up with an attractive solution: if Spike couldn’t come up and sleep with them, they would go downstairs and sleep with Spike!

Now, family members take turns setting up the pull-out couch and sleeping downstairs with Spike to ensure the old dog still has someone to talk to.

Catherine came home from college to find that her parents had changed where they slept. However, this didn’t surprise her because they’ve always been close to Spike.

Catherine told The Dodo, “They can’t be separated at all.” “My dad calls him an “old bean,” and the two talk all the time.”

“My dad will also bring Spike his water and food to the couch and feed him by hand to ensure he takes his medicine and stays strong.”

Spike isn’t as young as he used to be, but it’s clear that his family’s love for him hasn’t changed.

This act of kindness shows that they will do anything to make Spike’s last years as good as possible.

Catherine said, “We love our old boy so much and are happy to have him in our lives.” “We hope that by giving him all the love in the world, we’ve made up for his rough start in life.”

People will do almost anything to make their dogs happy. Thank you for taking care of their old dog for this family.
