A 16-year-old helps save 3 girls stuck in a car, and an officer saves them from drowning.

People call a teenager from Mississippi, a hero because he acted quickly to save four people, including a police officer, from drowning.

Good Morning America says that 16-year-old Corion Evans was in Moss Point, Mississippi when a car drove straight into the Pascagoula River. The car started to float about 20 feet from the shore but soon started to sink, trapping its three teenage girls inside.

The Moss Point Police Department said in a statement, “The driver of that car said she was using her GPS and didn’t know she was going into the water.”

Corion, on the other hand, was there and saw everything. People say he took off his shoes and shirt before jumping into the water as the car started to sink.

The brave Pascagoula High School student told WLOX, “I just thought, ‘I can’t let any of these people die. They should get out of the water.”

“So, I’ve just started getting them. I didn’t think about anything else at all.”

One of Corion’s friends reportedly also went into the river to help the girls climb onto the roof of the sinking car.

Corion said, “I’ve only just started to get them. I didn’t think about anything else at all.”

Moss Point Police Officer Gary Mercer was the first to arrive at the scene, but he ended up in trouble when one of the girls he was bringing to shore “began to panic, which caused him to go under and swallow some water.”

Officer Mercer was also saved because Corion saw him and helped him.

“I changed my mind. I can see the officer. He’s going under. He is going underwater, drowning, and calling out for help. Corion thought back.

“Therefore, I went there. I grabbed the police officer, and I’m like swimming him back until I feel like I can walk.”

Moss City officials gave Corion a certificate of commendation for his bravery on Tuesday.

Marquita Evans, the 16-year-proud old’s mother, told WLOX, “I’m glad he didn’t get hurt while he was trying to save other people.

“I was proud of Corion because he didn’t just think about himself. He was really trying to get everyone out of the water.”

Corion also said that he has been swimming since he was three.

“It was 25 yards out, so I had to swim a lot. “After that, my legs hurt so much,” he said. “However, anything could have been in that water. I didn’t think about it, though.”

Thank God Corion was there to help, and his bravery is something we can all admire. Officer Mercer and these three girls were saved at the last minute because of him.
