Consider what it would be like to view the world through the fierce eyes of a large and majestic animal. Occasionally, such a moment is difficult to witness, and only those who are fortunate enough will be able to see it. Conrad Tan’s close encounter with a Minnesota black wolf is a case of good fortune and impeccable timing.

Indeed, photography was Conrad’s late-blooming but most passionate hobby. “What began as a desire to view a wallpaper I created has developed into something of an obsession,” he wrote.

“I am consumed by the desire to create the ideal photograph, whatever that may be. I struggle with each image I create because I can always improve it. That, I suppose, is what keeps me coming back. There are a plethora of disciplines in this hobby that I have yet to explore. Additionally, I enjoy assisting other photographers whenever possible. I believe it is critical to give back to the hobby that has brought me so much joy.”

On a trip to Minnesota, he had the opportunity to have a rare encounter with a black wolf, and the outcome was as incredible as you could imagine. Here are a few photographs that capture that moment:

According to Native American legends, the black wolf is a spirit wolf who frequently appears with a message – seeing a black wolf indicates that you are about to learn an important life lesson.

Despite their dark coats, these wolves are grey. Their fur colour is caused by a genetic mutation that increases their fur’s dark pigment. Conrad Tan has successfully demonstrated the beauty and majesty of this species through his photographs.
